Introduction
This is the fifth of five parts of a satiric medley by John Tupper, Alexander Tupper, and George I. F. Tupper. It is titled in general “Papers of The M. S. Society”. The first three parts were published in The Germ no. 3 and the other two in no. 4. John Tupper, who wrote parts 1, 4, and 5, read all or part of it to a gathering of the PRB in November 1849 to an enthusiastic reception. WMR remarked that the work was “exceedingly clever” but “borders, nevertheless, on the ultra-peculiar, and a few allusions altogether unintelligible by such as are not personally acquainted with him will have to be omitted in printing it” (Fredeman, The P.R.B. Journal 29).
