A Catalogue Raisonné, vol. 1, 131 (no. 233).). It is the version that DGR sent in 1872 to Howell,
whose criticism of the picture put a considerable strain on their friendship
(see Fredeman,
Correspondence, especially the letters of 22 October, 1 November, and 3 November
1872). The first two were deemed unsatisfactory by DGR, and destroyed.
