This portrait of Mrs. Aldam Heaton is, as Surtees observes, “almost a replica” of the Regina Cordium done in 1860. The Alexa Wilding oil portrait of the same title done in 1866 is an entirely different work.
Production History
The picture is signed and dated from Woodbank, November 1861, where DGR was staying at the home of the Heatons. Early in October he had been invited to come and paint the portrait at their house in Yorkshire and he took up the invitation, remaining with them until 7 November.
