Introduction
As WMR's preface observes, Tupper was a member of the early Pre-Raphaelite circle, becoming a close friend of both DGR and WMR. He published a number of pieces in The Germ—a pair of poems, two humorous prose sketches, and finally a critical piece. He did not publish afterwards, however, and his verse was only collected after his death as an act of homage by WMR for his close friend of many years. No mean critic, DGR greatly admired a few of the poems, most notably “Eden after Sixty Centuries”.
