Introduction
This little privately printed book contains the first printed text of the Middle English poem that served as the basis of DGR's early “double work” The Girlhood of Mary Virgin . The Middle English devotional poem, “Joachim and Anne”, is known only from its inclusion in the Auchinleck Manuscript. DGR translated part of its text in 1847 or perhaps mid-1848.
It is interesting that this rare little volume would have been known to DGR and his family.
