Chiaro Painting his Soul

William Michael Rossetti says in Family Letters , p. 155, that Rossetti drew this to illustrate “ Hand and Soul” in the Germ, but was displeased with the engraving and destroyed both plate and print (SA197). Marillier mis-identifies this image as an illustration of “ St. Agnes of Intercession” (see Marillier p. 103).
