Introduction
This drawing is part of a series of sketches in the British Library's
Small Notebook 1 that appear to be related to the painting,
Water Willow. Among these are a number of rough landscapes, perhaps made
en plein air during
Rossetti's walks through the countryside around Kelmscott Manor (Fredeman,
Correspondence, 71.130). There is another, more
finished drawing
dating from this period and depicting similar landscape features.
