Scholarly Commentary

Introduction

Mrs. Morris is seated, facing right, with her head bent slightly down. Her hands are in her lap. The picture is virtually the mirror image of “Jane Morris seated, half length [1]” , where Mrs. Morris faces left in much the same pose. The latter is also much more closely cropped. It is also closely related to “Jane Morris seated, half length [3]” —another closely cropped shot, this one with Mrs. Morris also facing to the right, but with her back turned more toward the camera.
