Introduction
This work was commissioned to commemorate the fancy dress ball held by the Queen on May 12, 1842. The royal couple's costumes were executed by Vouillon & Laure, and inspired by the effigies of Queen Philippa of Hainault and Edward III in Westminster Abbey.
