This is one of several drawings included in Fredeman's Rossetti Cabinet representing characters from The Arabian Nights. The subject of this image is the lovely Queen Budoor from the “Tale of Kamar ez Zema'n,” a rambling story which spans more than seventy nights. On the verso of another drawing from this tale, Amgiad and Assad, there is a note by WMR referring to Edward William Lane's edition of the stories (illustrated with designs by William Harvey) as the source of DGR's inspiration. While the bulk of these scenes are reproduced in The Rossetti Cabinet, Surtees describes several in her Catalogue Raisonné.
