Introduction
The manuscripts and works in this miscellaneous volume of documents are mostly early work, though some date from as late as 1878, as the fragment of The White Ship on page 13v shows. These were manuscripts that WMR examined and worked over for publishing in his initial 1886 collected edition of his brother's works, for some of the publications he made in the 1890s, and also for his last collection of 1911.
Pages [2]-[5] contain DGR's notes for the translation project that eventually became The Early Italian Poets . WMR's note on page [5v] indicates that the pages were written in 1860, when DGR was in the last stages of preparing his book for the press. Several texts gathered near the end of this volume (pages 16-19) are also clearly related to DGR's translation project: his translation of a Cecco Angiolieri sonnet, “Prolonged Sonnet: When his Clothes were gone” , his transcription of a Donati Forese sonnet, “L'altra notte mi venne una gran tosse”, and his notes relating to these things.
