Introduction
This corrected galley proof of the sonnet was used as printer's copy for the Penkill Proofs (1869). It was printed off in early August 1869, or perhaps in July. The sonnet was one of several poems that DGR had printed off in galleys before he saw any of the page proofs that began in August with the Penkill Proofs. See the discussion of this galley proof in the commentary for the galley proof for “Sister Helen”.
