DGR has only a brief note on Panuccio that gives an approximate date of 1250 for his works.
A Pisan author, he was one of the many Tuscan poets writing under the influence of Guittone
d'Arezzo's moral and rational style—a style that was not especially to DGR's taste but that
he clearly wants to put on display here, to keep the historical record straight. Panuccio
was born in 1230 and died around 1276.
The rhyme scheme of the original is strictly followed in DGR's translation. The source text
is Raccolta
di rime antiche toscane (I. 480-482).
