Introduction
DGR wrote this burlesque verse letter to Stephens on 30 June 1849. Its subject is a letter that Hunt wrote to Stephens, apparently (and the line serving as this poem's epigraph is probably quoted from the letter). Hunt's nickname among the brethren of the PRB was “Mad” and “Maniac”.
The poem was first published in 1975 in Fredeman's edition of the PRB Journal (see bibliography below).
