fragment is the last quatrain of a poem he wrote with Thomas Woolner. Each wrote
what DGR called “alternate stanzas”, somewhat in the manner, apparently, of the
bouts rimés sonnets that WMR and DGR created together
around the same time. DGR copied the single extant stanza into
his letter (see
Family Letters
II. 39
, where WMR comments that it is “intentional nonsense, or burlesque”).
