Introduction
This is a complete (duplicate) copy (dated 22 April and numbered 3) of the first revise proof of Signature K of the Ballads and Sonnets volume. It is a printer's proof. The printer's note on p. 143 shows that this proof was used when the text was being augmented in later revises.
Textual History: Revision
In addition to this complete first revise (printer's copy), the library of the Delaware Museum of Art contains the following proof materials for Signature K of DGR's Ballads and Sonnets volume: a complete copy of the first author's proof (dated 14 April and numbered 1); another complete copy (author's copy) of the first revise (also dated 22 April 1881 and numbered 3) as well as a compositor's duplicate (uncorrected, udated, unnumbered); a complete copy of the second revise (undated and numbered 1); an incomplete copy of the third revise (dated 31 May 81 and unnumbered); and a complete copy of the final revise (dated 2 Jun and unnumbered). The British Library proofs have another copy of the first author's proofs for this signature (dated 14 Apr 81 and numbered 1).
