Scholarly Commentary
Introduction
This leaf from Signature D is all that remains (apparently) of the proofs that DGR had sent to his brother for comment and correction in late April 1881. They comprise pages 41-42, with a correction on page 42 (line 258) by DGR in response to a marginal note on the page by WMR.
Textual History: Revision
The library of the Delaware Art Museum has four sets of proofs for this signature, the first two numbered and date stamped by the printer Charles Whittingham, of Chiswick Press. In addition to this final revise (perfect, undated and without corrections), the museum also has a copy of the author's proofs undated), a duplicate of the latter, and a copy of the first revise(unnumbered, undated). The British Library also has a set of the first printer's revise (numbered 2; perfect, undated).
