This is an interesting unfinished work by DGR, written as a pastiche imitation of an Italian canzone of the kind that he translated so often in The Early Italian Poets.
Textual History: Composition
The only known manuscript of this work is in Notebook IV at the Duke University Library. A fragment of three lines of verse, also in the Duke University library collection, may well have been written for a conclusion to this uncompleted work by DGR.
Printing History
The two fragments that relate to this work were first published by WMR in his edition of 1911,
one a fragment with DGR's prose description, the other a set of three lines edited from the Duke Notebook.
