Introduction
This manuscript was probably written in 1870, perhaps in 1869. As WMR's cover note indicates, however, many of the revisions in the manuscript came much later, in 1880, when DGR was preparing to publish the poem, unfinished though it was, in his new 1881 edition of Poems .
