Scholarly Commentary
Introduction
This is a famous work of the Sicilian School and one that had considerable influence on the later poetry of the stil novo, where the theme of the image of the beloved painted in the heart of the lover is strongly pursued. The suggestion that this image is a sacred figura is common to the theme.
DGR's source text is Poeti del primo secolo (I. 257-259)
See DGR's translation for further commentary.
