Textual History: Composition
DGR's manuscript transcription from his source text survives in the library of the South African National Gallery. It carries several pencil annotations by DGR that clearly represent his early efforts to translate this strange sonnet. (The source text was Luigi Fiacchi's Scelta di Rime Antiche (page 14).)
