Introduction

This set of proof pages for the Second Trial Book represents DGR's working copy. It contains revisions and additions that were made over an extended period of time, from early or mid-November 1869 to February 1870. Collation of this set of proofs with other extant sets suggests that there were two states of the first proofs for the Second Trial Book. In this set of materials, pages 1-4, 117-118, 181-184, 193-194, and 197-198 antedate the other pages. Front matter not included in these proofs.
